Toyota Motor Corporation is the world’s largest automobile by volume. A pioneer of the Japanese auto industry the company began in 1937 by Kiichiro Toyoda whose name the brand was based on. Toyoda was the son of a successful Japanese businessman who went on to found one of the greatest automobile manufacturers in the world.
Toyota’s headquarters in Toyota City located in Aichi Prefecture, Japan has seen plenty of turmoil in its 8 decades of operation. Entering the US market in 1957 began the export of Japanese passenger cars to the United States.
Toyota operates its business worldwide with 53 overseas manufacturing companies in 28 countries and regions. The company’s vehicles are sold in more than 170 countries and regions. European auto giant Volkswagen and Japanese automaker Toyota were founded in 1937, late in the game compared to US automakers such as Ford in 1903 and General Motors in 1908.
